The Computer Science and Statistics Department is currently filling tenure track positions at the Hattiesburg campus and also at the Gulf Coast campus.
The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Statistics. Qualifications for the positions include an earned doctorate in computer science or closely related area by the fall of 2000 and the abilities to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct scholarly research, and obtain external funding. Qualified candidates in all areas of computer science will be considered. Those with interest in high performance computing and visualization will find great research opportunities at the John C. Stennis Space Center(SSC).
The department offers a B.S. degree in computer science and M.S. degrees in computer science and computational science. The department is an integral part of an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in scientific computing that is offered in conjunction with the Departments of Physics/Astronomy and Mathematics. The department is an active partner in the development of the Trent Lott Supercomputer and Visualization Center located at SSC. The center will provide opportunities for research and access to state-of-the-art facilities. In addition, several faculty members have funded research projects at SSC.
USM is located in Hattiesburg, Miss., which was recently recognized as one of the 10 best small cities in the United States. Hattiesburg is located 75 miles from the Stennis Space Center, one of the Department of Defense's four major shared resource centers for advanced, high-performance computing.

The University of Southern Mississippi-Gulf Coast campus invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Statistics to begin in January 2000. The department offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and Statistics. The main campus is located in Long Beach, MS. The University also support three other teaching centers, all on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, at Gautier, Keesler AFB, and Stennis Space Center. Qualifications for the position include an earned doctorate in computer science or a closely related area (ABD considered) an interest in teaching and conducting scholarly research. Teaching responsibilities will range from introductory undergraduate courses to supervising graduate thesis preparation. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in computer graphics or DBMS. Qualified applicants with interest in other areas of computer science will also be given full consideration.
